CLSU student is 2008 NORMAN E. BORLAUG FELLOW
 
A Ph.D. student of the Department of Aquaculture, Institute of Graduate Studies, Central Luzon State University, Philippines, and partially-funded by the Aquaculture and Fisheries Collaborative Research Support Program (AquaFish CRSP) to finish her degree, Ms. Ravelina Recometa-Velasco was selected as a Fellow for the Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP) of the Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellows Program. The Borlaug LEAP Fellowship honors Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman E. Borlaug who has been hailed as the father of the Green Revolution. This fellowship award is facilitated by the University of California, Davis, USA. The Fellowship award is worth $20,000 which will be allocated as a subgrant to the US Mentor’s institution which is North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, USA.

Ms. Ravelina Recometa-Velasco, a Cum Laude graduate of BS in Inland Fisheries, CLSU in 1983 and now works as one of the Program Managers of the GIFT Foundation Intl., Inc., competed in this graduate assistantship through her Advisory Chair, Dr. Remedios B. Bolivar, AquaFish CRSP Host Country Investigator. Ms. Velasco went through a rigid selection process including a phone interview from Mexico.

The fellowship commences on July 1, 2008 with Dr. Russell J. Borski of North Carolina State University as her US Faculty Mentor, Dr. Raul W. Ponzoni of WorldFish Center as her CGIAR Scientist Mentor and Dr. Remedios B. Bolivar as her Philippine Mentor and Advisory Chair. The AquaFish CRSP Director, Dr. Hillary S. Egna of Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, USA was also very supportive to this competition.
