CF-CLSU hurdles first phase of CHED-COEs evaluation

The College of Fisheries-CLSU made a headway in the first step of evaluation for the second batch of Centers of Excellence (COEs)/Centers of Development (CODs) in Fisheries last June 25-27. The College met the 80% cut-off mark to qualify for COE.

COEs and CODs are higher education institutions, both public and private, which have demonstrated the highest degree or level of standards along the areas of instruction, research and extension.

The evaluators were composed of Dr. Rogelio O. Juliano, chairperson, PRC Board in Fisheries; and Dr. Efren C. Flores, former dean of the College of Fisheries in University of the Philippines in Visayas. Enjoined in the three-day affair were Mr. Dan Buena Agua, CHED-OPS and Dr. Tess De Leon, CHEDRO III.

“As a COE, it shall take a leadership role in assisting other institutions”, said Dr. Juliano.

The four areas evaluated were instructional quality (45%), research and publication (35%), extension and linkages (10%) and institutional qualification (10%).

A brief presentation of the college was made by Dr. Apolinario V. Yambot, CF dean. The strengths of the college were highlighted in the report such as strong faculty profile, curriculum, researchers and publications, good performance of graduates in the Fisheries Technologist licensure exam, numerous local and national awards, and visible entrepreneurial activities.
