CLSU Rodeo Team wins 33rd championship

It remains the team to beat!
After almost five years of rest from rodeo competitions, the CLSU Rodeo Team has proven its unbeatable “bull and cow power” as they once again brought home the championship title of the UP Centennial Pinoy Rodeo ’08 held last March 7-8 at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna.
It was the 33rd championship, out of 37 rodeo competitions, gained by the team which is now composed of entirely new members. They placed as first-runner up in the other four competitions in the record.
According to Dr. Ernesto P. Garillo, faculty member of the CLSU College of Agriculture and team manager, the CLSU Red Team dominated almost all events (18 cattle events and 10 non-cattle events) garnering a total score of 189 points. Three other teams from two premiere agricultural universities in the country competed in the said event. The UP Maroon Team and UP White Team, both from UPLB, got second and third places with 157 and 148 points, respectively; while the DLSAU Green Team from De La Salle Araneta University was fourth with 142 points.
The CLSU Rodeo Team is composed of 22 student-members namely Joan Mamangon (co-captain), Randolf Sta. Cruz, Jeffrey Baltazar, Dallycel Discion, Benjamin Mingala, Christian Lee Carpio, Cesario Asuncion, Beverly Lapuz, Michelle Floresca, Tristan John Mapili, Billy Costales, John Lester Bringas, Anjo Bautista and Jayson Bernabe from the College of Agriculture; Cyril Baltazar (team captain), Joseph Carlo Bassig, Jennelyn Pilis (playing muse), Billy Joel Butay, Ma. Karina Christina Dometita, Ronalyn Roxas and Glea Junnete Magtanao from the College of Veterinary Science and Medicine; and Marriane Bundal from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy. It is headed by Dr. Ernesto P. Garillo, Team Manager, Dr. Dante D. Lorenzo, Coach (Cattle Events), and Mr. Ariel S. Galamgam, Coach (Non-cattle Events).
To date, the team has standing invitations to four rodeo events: “Rodeo sa Aguinaldo” in Ifugao, “Rodeo sa UP Diliman”, “Rodeo sa Mindoro”, and the very famous “Rodeo Masbateño”.
